Opening Day at the ASA Gold National Championship

Oklahoma City---The 2007 ASA Girl’s 18-Under Gold Fast Pitch National Championship got underway on Sunday night with the opening ceremony and two rounds of pool play. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Stacey Nuveman was the guest speaker during opening ceremonies and shared her experience as a former ASA Gold player and as an Olympic gold medalist.

Sixteen of the 64 teams played on Sunday night in the opening round of pool play while the other teams will see their first action on Monday when pool play continues at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex and at Wild Horse Park in Mustang, Okla. Click Here for Pool Play Brackets.

Worth Firecrackers of Huntington Beach, Calif., the 2006 ASA Gold national runner-up, opened up play in Pool A with a resounding 12-0 win over the Arizona Suncats of Glendale, Ariz. The San Diego Renegades took down the East Cobb Bullets of Kennesaw, Ga., 4-1 in the other game in Pool A.

In Pool B MC Elite South of Magnolia, Texas edged All American Sports Academy of Woodland, Calif., 2-0, while the Oklahoma Babes of Midwest City won by the same score over the Shamrocks of Vienna, Va., on the other side of the pool.

OC Batbusters of Santa Ana, Calif., opened up its defense of its 2006 National Championship, with a 6-1 win over the Nebraska Sizzle of Elkorn, Neb., in Pool C. The So Cal Choppers of Valencia, Calif., squeaked past Nightmare Gold of Hamilton, N.J., 1-0 in the other game in Pool C.

In Pool D Texas Storm-Durham of Pearland, Texas outlasted the Tennessee Eagles of Chattanooga, Tenn., 5-3 in their opening game while Georgia Xtreme of Stockbridge, Ga., matched their effort with a 5-3 win of their own over Charlotte Lady Blues of Charlotte, N.C.
